This song is dedicated to my homies in that gangsta lean…
In the 1993 song “Gangsta Lean,” group DRS speaks of pouring out a libation to the “homies gone too soon.”
Don’t ask me WHY that song was on my mind this morning when I sat down to write this post, but there you go, now you’re school in the ways of 90s “gangstas.”
But seriously, I dedicate this post to all the creative entrepreneurs who didn’t make it and to those who are still trying.
Being an entrepreneur is HARD work.
Being a creative entrepreneur – where you sell your creative output, your ideas, your insight, your lovingly handcrafted products – is doubly hard.
When statistics say 4 out of 5 businesses fail, they mean 4 out of 5 businesses that they actually have a record of.
How many businesses or entrepreneurs are out there who didn’t register?
Who instead dreamed up their ideas in basements or living rooms or kitchen tables and worked toward their goals for hours on end on nights and weekends while holding down a day job?
How many stay-at-home parents start developing a craft or hobby and they create and create and create and then realize “Holy [expletive]! I can sell this stuff.”?
How many amazing writers are out there who write for fun – because they can’t NOT write – and then one day realize, with a little work, they could turn their fun activity into a profitable brand?
How many of these people quit?
But not you.
No, not you.
Because you know you will get there.
Times get hard.
Trust me, I know.
Here’s a manifesto I wrote for myself, for when I have tough days, for when I need a boost – so I’m sharing it with you.
Today is a new day.
And for every day,
every minute – you have the opportunity
to make your dreams come true.
Don’t waste this moment.
And don’t fret.
Don’t let fear stop you.
Be inspired by opportunity
masking itself as impossibility.
Listen to your heart.
It’s a pure, fearless and persistent little voice.
It lives in your dreams.
Dream with purpose.
If dreaming is all you do,
a dreamer is all you’ll ever be.
Let your dreams be guides
to living your dream life.
Desire and plot a passion-filled life.
Then take action to get it.
Act with clarity.
You have everything you need.
Everything you are is perfect for your journey.
Everything you will be, you already are.
Look deep inside yourself.
And love every step of your journey.
