Meet Instagram. It’s a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your photos with friends and family — and now it’s going to be owned by social media giant, Facebook.
That’s right. Facebook to buy Instagram.
As a digital media marketing person, I love Facebook and I love Instagram, but I’m not so sure how I feel about Facebook owning Instagram.
“We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.” says Zuckerberg, according the Associated Press.
According to AP, this plan is a departure from Facebook’s history of buying up small startups and integrating the technology – or shutting small companies down in order to hire their talent.
Despite my hesitation to be excited about the deal, the folks at Instagram should be stoked.
$1 billion. With a B.
Well-deserved for an ingenious and lovely little app!
“Now we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.” Zuckerberg said from his Facebook page earlier today.
I can’t wait to see how this story develops.
Do you use Instagram?
